The Faculty Recognition Award is the highest honor award of FISF in teaching, aiming to praise excellent teachers who have made extraordinary contributions, acquired outstanding achievements and won high recognition of students for teaching. Upholding the school motto of “Unified FISF, Excellence, Responsibility, Innovation” and through rounds of selection including course evaluation and student voting, this year’s winners list of the Faculty Recognition Award have been unveiled. The award-winning professors this year were Professor Guoshi Tong of EMF, Professor Xiaoyin Ma of FMBA FT+, Professor Changyuan Luo of FMBA PT+, and Professor Yuenong Xu of FEMBA.

On June 22^nd 2025, Professor Huasheng Gao, Deputy Secretary of FISF General Party Branch and Deputy Dean of Faculty and Research, presented the“2025 Faculty Recognition Award” at the graduation ceremony.

Words of Professor Guoshi Tong

It’s a great honor to win the Faculty Recognition Award of EMF again. This honor is not just an affirmation of my past teaching, but also motivation and encouragement for my future path of teaching. I’ve always firmly believed that teaching is a two-way journey where the benign interaction between teaching and learning depend on deep thinking and meticulous condensation of the teaching contents, as well as continual accumulation and practice of teaching experience and skills. I always keep the faith that as long as we put in our heart, we can definitely get good feedback.

In the future, I’ll work together with my colleagues as always to constantly improve my teaching quality. The traditional cramming method in teaching will be abandoned and a new way will be adopted for students to know not only the hows but also the whys, understanding the ins and outs as well as the inner logical connection of every facet of knowledge.

I hope all the students can gain something and apply what they’ve learned at the end of each course. Thanks again for your support and trust!

Many thanks to my students for your love and to the school for your support! As a young new-comer, I’m deeply aware of the significant responsibility to lecture the professional course of finance for FMBA elites in the first module of the first year. I shall thank my colleagues for their selfless help and guide in my lesson preparations; the interactive communication with students in class has taught me once more the meaning of “teaching benefiting teachers as well as students.” And it is so lucky that I can carry on the friendships and exchange with students after completing the course. This award is of great significance to me, and it acts as a motivation and encouragement for my future teaching and research.

I shall sincerely express my thanks to EMBA25 students for your recognition of the course of investment and fondness of me. The period when we studied the modern financial investment theory and knowledge about derivatives was a special time as the capital market was full of challenges. It was relieving that CAPM and some other classic models constructed by Nobel laureates for economics had displayed their unique practical wisdom in this special stage, granting us the theoretical foundation and courage to get through the market fluctuation. Accordingly, students stuck in the bear market regained confidence and no longer focused on their investment accounts, hedging market anxiety with academic beliefs while building confidence through crazy options simulation trading. Eventually, they managed to complete studies with a relaxed mindset. Thanks again for the honor granted by my students and school. I love you all!

Teacher Tong’s PFV course is the perfect guideline to enter the industry of finance! Through his explanation, obscure and abstract models became as vivid as tearing down building blocks. In class he especially liked to take the example of Disneyland. When talking about valuation, he combined Disney’s IP values, the park’s business cash flow, and other relevant contents with DCF models, turning the cold formulas into lively cases familiar to us. Each class, we were guided to light our “fantastic dream” of finance in the “Disneyland” of valuation logistics, where complex formulas acted as the key to solving realistic problems like DCF and comparable company valuation. We are grateful to Teacher Tong as he allowed us to understand that finance is not just the cold numbers in excels, but more a representation of commercial value!

I was lucky to attend Teacher Tong’s course of Principles of Finance and Valuation (PFV) in the first term of my first year of graduate studies, which was a brand-new enlightenment of financial knowledge for me. Through your expert and vivid teaching method, complicated financial valuation models and principles were turned into an articulate and descriptive knowledge system. From the logical breakdown of discounted cash flow to the value analysis of various financial instruments, every knowledge point has shed its obscure coat and become lively and tangible under your explanation. In class, the passion for finance that twinkles in your eyes was highly infectious, leading us to actively explore the mysteries of the financial world. Faced with students’ questions, whether difficult or easy, you were always so patient to give answers and meticulously sort them out. Such enthusiasm of being an educator makes the transmission of knowledge warmer. Through the PFV course, I have not only acquired professional knowledge, but also gained a strong interest in the financial field and the courage to explore. Sincere thanks for your hard work. May you continue to shine on the path of teaching and use financial wisdom to light up the journey of seeking knowledge for more students. Studying the course of corporate finance taught by Teacher Ma, I was most impressed by the ideas conveyed beyond fundamental knowledge. The course has truly helped us build a solid understanding framework of core concepts (such as the actual decision-making logic of NPV and IRR in capital budgeting, the trade-off theory of capital structure, and the market signal significance of dividend policies), but what really touched me was the unique exploration mode at the end of the course.

The final project required us to deeply study an enterprise with a systematic analysis method “from the inside out.” This was not just about analyzing financial statements or applying formulas, but about breaking them down layer by layer. For me, the unique value of this course lies in its revelation of an important cognitive dimension: truly valuable analysis or decision-making must not be limited to isolated data from a single enterprise.

Teacher Xiaoyin Ma’s corporate finance course is quite interesting. With his solid academic foundation and experience in frontier industries, he has built a systematic knowledge framework at both theoretical and practical levels; he is an amiable and graceful person, good at establishing a harmonious teacher-student relationship and able to create a speculative atmosphere with an open and inclusive attitude. I luckily had the opportunity to attend Teacher Xiaoyin Ma’s corporate finance course in the first module. Using his profound academic foundation and vivid teaching method, he skillfully combined complex financial theories with realistic cases, adding vigor to the dull knowledge learning process and making obscure concepts easy to understand. No matter it was about capital structure or corporate financing, he could always ignite our passion to seek knowledge with his rigorous logic and humorous explanations. In class, he would also make comments on our group reports based on his own experience and knowledge. What was most attractive in Teacher Ma’s corporate finance course was that he could always bring dull theories to life. When it came to complex financial models, capital structures and other obscure concepts, he was able to illustrate them in vivid commercial stories and game cases, making them clear and simple. Whenever we turned to him with questions, his patience and carefulness truly compelled our admiration. No matter if it was formula derivation or financial thinking cultivation, he was willing to spend a great deal of time leading us through and making sure we had truly got the hang. This kind of hands-on guidance greatly enhanced everyone’s professionalism. What benefits us most is Teacher Ma’s ability to closely connect class learning with reality. His rich experience at Ant Group put academic knowledge into practice. Listening to his analysis of cases such as technology company valuation and supply chain finance, not only did we learn knowledge, but we also understood how finance could truly help the real economy. This is the true meaning of “learning to apply.”

For us, Teacher Ma is not an ordinary knowledge imparter, but more like a guide to financial practice.

I have gained a lot from Teacher Changyuan Luo’s course of macroeconomics and international finance, which focuses on open macroeconomics from a global perspective, systematically presenting topics such as exchange rates, foreign exchange markets, and macroeconomic policies.

In class, Teacher Luo explained profound theories in simple language and brought abstract knowledge to life with abundant cases. During class breaks, we students liked to gather round him and had heated discussions upon questions in class and realistic hot financial issues, and he was always patient to give answers and provide guidance.

Such interaction not only deepened my understanding of the knowledge, but aroused my passion to explore the field of international finance. Moreover, I have developed a macroscopic thinking and global vision. I have benefited a lot.

Hidden in Professor Changyuan Luo’s elegant temperament is his sharp insight into financial logic.
