On October 23, 2025, the Institute for Global Public Policy (IGPP) at Fudan University and the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Helsinki signed a MOU to establish a strategic partnership during the 30th anniversary celebration of the Nordic Centre at Fudan University. The signing ceremony was chaired by Geir Sigurdsson, Chair of the Nordic Centre Board and Professor at the University of Iceland. The agreement was signed on behalf of the two institutions by Professor Jari Eloranta, Vice Dean of Social Sciences at the University of Helsinki, and Dean Yijia Jing of IGPP. Attendees included President Kaarle Hämeri of the University of Helsinki and Li’an Lu, Director of the Fudan Office of Global Partnership.

The partnership builds on years of collaboration and faculty exchanges between the two institutions. In August 2025, Dean Jing visited the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Helsinki to participate in the “Digital China” academic seminar, where the two sides reached agreements on scholar exchanges, joint research projects, collaborative courses, dialogue among civilizations, and student mobility. Vice Dean Eloranta is currently visiting Fudan University, delivering lectures and participating in academic events.

Following the signing, President Hämeri and Dean Jing held further discussions and expressed strong support for deepening cooperation between the two institutions.

The MOU is expected to advance collaboration in public policy and the social sciences, expand global academic networks, and promote high-level talent development and innovative research. Scholars and representatives from multiple Chinese and Nordic universities attended the event.
